What to do with an Epiphany?

Have you ever had an epiphany? You know one of those “Aha” moments when you have a good idea, the next “Hula-hoop” or “Pet Rock”! You could be right. I’m sure Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg had that moment.

Ok great, now what? Well, the first thing I do is brainstorm with a trusted friend. This exercise allows me to dream out loud. Talk about my idea and share my excitement. Eventually the conversation turns to the practical side of things. How am I going to build this company? How do I get people to know who I am and what I do? And, of course, the biggest question of them all; how do I get the money to start this business?

So what are my next steps? Do I sit back and wait until I see an ad on TV and shout out loud, “That was my idea!”, “I knew that was a good idea!” too late now. No, don’t wait for that moment. Do something with that great idea! I usually “Noodle” on the idea. I let it percolate in my mind. I buy a little notebook and carry it around adding snip-it’s of ideas, thoughts, and questions that I need to think thru. Yes, “Think it Thru”. That’s what I do with a good idea.

What is “Think it Thru”? Well that is the process of thinking thru the business and addressing all your questions in a constructive manner. What does that look like? Well, it looks an awful lot like a Business Plan. Oh no, the dreaded business plan! I couldn’t agree with you more. Business plans are complicated and ask for too much information. So let’s boil it down to be an easy, simple plan that allows you to “Think it Thru” without losing your mind.

I am on a mission to create a “Business Planning” tool called Think it Thru and I would love your thoughts and ideas. Tell me how you “Noodle” on your epiphanies (good ideas). What do you do with those “Aha” moments? Looking forward to hearing from you!!
